Canal boats and marquees filled with people

About

Join Chesterfield Canal Trust for its annual festival where there will be cruises on our tripboats, entertainment in the big marquee and outside with flypasts on both days. On Saturday a Spitfire will fly past at 16:41 and on Sunday at 14:30 there will be a Hurricane.

There will also be a fun dog show at 1pm on Saturday 24 June. We’ll be looking for the prettiest bitch, best trick, handsome dog, child handler, fancy dress, waggiest tale and more. Enter on the day from 11am. It’s £2 for the first entry and £1 for any additional entries.

The Trust’s Development Manager will be holding Q&A sessions in the marquee about the plans for the restoration of the canal.

In addition, there will be Birds of Prey, Children’s rides, Water Walking Balls, Bumper Boats, Spinning Bumper Carz, Drive a Digger, Canoeing, Zorbing, Newfoundland Rescue Dogs, Wildlife groups, Dance teams, a brass band, Face painting, Craft stalls, Charity stalls, lots of Food stalls and a Real Ale bar.

There will be separate concerts on the Friday and Saturday nights, starting at 7.30pm. Friday will see the return of the ever-popular Swing Commanders, whilst Saturday will feature Chesterfield’s own WonderWhys. There will be onsite parking, food stalls and a Real Ale bar on both dates.

Book tickets for the Swing Commanders and the WonderWhys online

On Monday 26 June, the day after the Festival, there will be a flotilla of all four tripboats from Staveley Basin right up the canal to Tapton and back, covering 10 miles and 11 locks with a stop at Hollingwood Hub. The first boat will leave Staveley Town basin at 10am, returning by 4pm. There is an option to go one way to Tapton Lock, arriving by 1pm. Book seats on the flotilla online.

On Tuesday 27 June, two days after the Festival,, there will be a What, Where and When Restoration Walk to show how the canal’s route looks at present before the major restoration works start next year.

The Trust is very grateful to Markham Vale and Derbyshire County Council for giving permission to use the site.
