We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Chesterfield Borough Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Website and Mobile Applications) (No.2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard due to the non-compliance and exemptions listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Duplicate values
On some pages an ID which has been used in not unique. This can confuse some screen readers. We aim to fix this by March 2021.
Images
Some images do not have a text alternative (alt text), so the information in them isn’t available to people using a screen reader. A code error is preventing us from adding alt text to some of our images. We aim to fix this by March 2021.
Form Fields
Some fields on forms on our pages are missing labels making it difficult for screen readers to understand them. We aim to fix this by March 2021.
Links
Links should be clear and easy to understand so users with assistive technology, like a screen reader, can easily and efficiently navigate where they need to go on the website. Currently on our website it is not possible to add a description and this needs to be fixed on the HTML. We aim to fix this by March 2021.
Headings
The HTML that details the structure of pages are missing some headings and this may result in customers using a screen reader being unable to make sense of the structure. We aim to fix this by March 2021.
Disproportionate burden
There are no disproportionate burdens at present.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
Videos
The regulations do not apply to third-party content. The majority of the videos displayed on the website fall into this category and will therefore not include captions or audio description unless provided by us.
Maps
The regulations do not apply to online maps and mapping services, as along as essential information is provided in an accessible digital manner for maps intended for navigational use. Google maps are embedded into many of our pages to help identify locations of attractions, places to eat, drink and stay etc. We do not plan to change these maps, but in conjunction to a map a full address is included.
PDFs
We will ensure that new PDFs produced by us meet accessibility standard. We cannot guarantee that documents produced by external organisations, and published to our website, are accessible. As example of a PDF supplied by a third party could be a walking route/ map.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We have already fixed many accessibility issues on our website in the lead up to the regulations deadline of 23 September 2020.
We are currently working with partners to improve our website, in order to fix and reduce some of the criteria we do not meet within this accessibility statement.
We use Sitemorse to assess the accessibility of our website. A sample of 125 pages is tested and reviewed on a weekly basis. We will also carry out manual checks.
