Days out by bus
It’s great when you can come on holiday and don’t have to use the car to explore. Here’s a selection of great days out by bus to give you some ideas.
The bus to Bakewell and Chatsworth takes about three quarters of an hour and goes through some spectacular countryside, from Gibbet Moor to Pilsley Village, heather clad moorland to pretty villages and green countryside. It’s easy to spend a day at Bakewell, browsing the shops, getting a bite to eat in one of the cafes with a taste of Bakewell Pudding, walking by the river, exploring the Old House Museum and, on Mondays, visiting the market.
Chatsworth, of course, is a day to itself. Follow the tour through the House seeing amazing works of art, beautiful furniture and the incredible painted hall, then wander along the serpentine hedges in the garden, see the Emperor Fountain and the Cascade and get lost for a while in the maze.
Take a trip to Bolsover Castle and explore with their multi-media tour, which introduces you to a character from the past who’s getting ready for a visit to the Castle by King Charles I.
When you can get out and about so easily why not stay a few days to explore Chesterfield Area and a step further out?
