Things To Do
There’s so much to see and do in Chesterfield Area that you’re really spoilt for choice. Here are just a few of the highlights.
We have more than our fair share of stately homes. There’s the magnificence of Chatsworth the ‘Palace of the Peak’, Elizabethan splendour at Hardwick, the Italianate gardens of Renishaw Hall and Gardens, the dramatic hillside ruin of Sutton Scarsdale Hall and Bolsover Castle, a castle in name but in fact a fairy-tale mansion.
Explore our history with a visit to the Roundhouse Railway Centre at Barrow Hill, which houses one of the largest collections of diesel, electric and steam locomotives in the country.
Step out into history in our beautiful countryside with a walk round Linacre Reservoirs or alongside the Chesterfield Canal, or take part in the Chesterfield Area Walking Festival. Find out more on our walking page.
Bring your bike and explore our off road cycle tracks like the Five Pits Trail or the Phoenix Greenways. Chesterfield Area has one of the best networks of cycle tracks in the country and you can find out more on our cycling page.
If you like shopping, Chesterfield Area is the place to visit. Check out bargains at Chesterfield’s open air market, or shop indoors at the Market Hall. There are more than 70 stores at the East Midlands Designer Outlet and we’re only a short drive from Meadow Hall.
Enjoy a night out with a meal and a show at the Pomegranate Theatre or the Winding Wheel. You can catch at play, a comedy night, West End musicals, concerts, dances, children’s shows and, of course, the Christmas pantomime. Check what shows are coming up on our theatres page.
The only question now is when will you visit?
