Eating Out
Part of the fun of going on holiday is finding new places to eat and drink. Stay a few days and sample delicious food made from fresh Derbyshire produce, local brews, sophisticated and award-winning dining and cafes and tea rooms selling home made cakes and pastries.
There are pubs offering real ales and great food, like the Tickled Trout at Barlow. The Bull’s Head in Holymoorside has a gin menu including elderflower, rhubarb and ginger and raspberry and, of course, gin and tonic. The Fox and Goose at Pudding Pie Hill offers a la carte dining as well as a vegetarian and gluten free menu, while the Market Pub in Chesterfield offers real ales, a gin menu and great pub food. Check out our Pubs and Bars page to find out more.
There’s a fantastic range of cafes and tea rooms in Chesterfield. Stephenson’s Tea and Coffee House has won best café and best customer service in the Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards. Enjoy breakfast with a speciality tea or lunch with a cool beer from Brampton Brewery. The Market Café in Chesterfield Market Hall sells mouth-watering food from local suppliers and a range of cakes to die for. Browse our Cafes and Tea Rooms page for more.
If you want Michelin Guide food, the place to go is the Old Vicarage Restaurant in Ridgeway. Tess Bramley offers a comfortable rather than grand setting, warm hospitality and idyllic views over the Moss Valley while you sample from the prestige menu which uses fresh produce from the Vicarage’s own kitchen garden or nearby farms. Chesterfield Area also offers high quality food from Italy, Japan and India, just check our Restaurants page for a flavour.
Chesterfield was once one of the largest brewing towns in Derbyshire and its most famous Brewery, Brampton, has returned today as an award-winning micro-brewery and still produces some of the old favourites like Golden Bud and Brampton Best. There are micro-breweries throughout Chesterfield Area taking advantage of clear Derbyshire water. Sample brews from Ashover Brewery, Collyfobble Brewery whose beers come complete with a Derbyshire accent. Discover more on our Local Breweries page.
You can have confidence eating at any of the places listed on our website as they all have top marks hygiene ratings of 4 or 5.
The only question you have to ask is how long do I have to stay to taste the real flavour of Derbyshire?
