Parks and Gardens
With so many stately homes in Chesterfield Area, we have a wealth of glorious gardens that come with them.
Stroll round Renishaw Hall’s Italianate gardens, laid out by the eccentric Sir George Sitwell and remembered in the poetry and prose of his talented children – Edith, Osbert and Sachaverell. The Gardens are set in acres of parkland with lakeside and nature walks.
From the spectacular array of plants and flowers at Renishaw to the amazing gardens of Chatsworth. Don’t miss the Emperor Fountain, the highest gravity fed fountain in the world, the maze, the rock garden, the cascade – the list goes on.
Hardwick Gardens, while smaller in scale, have their own character. Explore the herb garden and the orchard, and search out the wine glass. Visit Bolsover Castle’s Venus Garden with its secluded love seats and intriguing statues.
Then there are the parks. The demise of the coal industry left the area with a great number of country parks, from Poolsbrook in Staveley to Pleasley Pit Country Park, from the Peter Fidler Reserve at Bolsover to Grassmoor on the Five Pits Trail to name a few. They offer walking, cycling, fishing, bird watching and many other activities.
Queen's Park in Chesterfield town centre offers something a little different - play areas for younger children and teenagers, a miniature train and a cricket ground that hosts Derbyshire County Cricket Club at the annual Chesterfield Festival of Cricket.
Have a look at the list below and decide which park you want to visit.
