Family Friendly Attractions
There’s so much for families to do in Chesterfield Area that you’re really spoilt for choice – even if the Great British weather lets you down. Here are just a few of the highlights.
We have some great animal attractions, such as Matlock Farm Park where you can meet meerkats, sheep, llamas, rabbits, reptiles and lots more. Visit the new rainforest indoor play barn, have a go at pony trekking or try out the go-karts. There’s something for everyone.
Meet some different animals at the Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre. See the lemurs, check out a parrot display, meet an owl, handle a snake and take a walk in the free flying butterfly house.
Visit the Jungle Play Centre or Kooca, two of the areas best soft indoor play centres.
If your children are fascinated by the world underground, take a trip to Creswell Crags. Take a cave tour and discover what our Ice Age ancestors left behind, the find out more in the exhibition.
Our museums are geared up for families with lots of hands on activities – learning can be fun! Visit the Barrow Hill Roundhouse Railway Centre, bigger and better following a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
If your children enjoy keeping active, visit one of our sports centres or check out our cycling page. How about going to a children’s film or a show at the theatre, or striking out at the Chesterfield Bowl?
The only question now is will the children want to leave?
