About
Chesterfield Market Hall was officially named as the UK’s best small indoor market in 2013 by the National Association of British Market Authorities.
Our Victorian Market Hall was originally built in 1857 'for the shelter and safeguard of market people'. It housed a Corn Exchange, a covered market, shops and offices, and a house for the market keeper. It even boasted a ‘retiring room for ladies’. These were Chesterfield’s first public toilets!
In 2013, the building underwent a multi-million pound facelift which gave it a glass roof and a bright, airy shopping mall inside.
There's a variety of things on sale inside the Hall including sweets, nuts, meat and fresh fish, clothing, watches, cakes and lots more. Shops on the outside of the Hall include Davidson's Cheese Factor, Ginspired, Big Wicks (candles), Esbergers Carpets and Fabrics, Uppercrust (sandwiches), the Market Cobbler, Thanks a Bunch Florists and others.
Take a rest from shopping at the Market Café where you will be able to enjoy coffee and cake, breakfast or a light lunch while looking through the glass roof at the Clocktower!
