About
Fred’s Haberdashery is an independent haberdashery shop and online business located in the heart of Chesterfield and supplies the widest and most diverse range of sewing, dress making and craft supplies in the area, from knitting and crochet to ribbons, buttons, elastics, and threads/needlecraft. “Fred’s” started trading on Chesterfield market in 1973, and has subsequently grown in size and reputation. The business recently changed hands is now run and owned by Emily Lord, and ably supported by experienced employee, Emily Sutton.
The shop relocated in February 2020 from the market hall to larger premises at 3 West Bars (next to Dents and The Samaritans). The new premises have meant a larger, more relaxed space for customers to browse in, as well as an opportunity to add and stock a wider range of products than previously.
Emily’s vision for Fred’s is to retain the tradition that made the shop successful whilst adding extras such as new product lines, crafting & social sessions and improving the online haberdashery experience. The shop has a basement with seating area and large sewing table to host social crafting sessions, and craft lessons, such as crochet (delivered by Emily).
In the shop, staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They are always there to help, no matter what sewing related query you may have, from colour matching to advice on home projects and what materials are best to use. Whether you’re looking for standard sewing thread, or a beautiful niche button, you can always rely on Fred’s Haberdashery to have what you need.
A brand new website and social media profile was also launched in February 2020. Orders via the website can be posted out, delivered (to S40/S41 postcodes) or even “click-and-collect” from the shop. Online payments are accepted via bank/credit cards, Paypal, Google Pay and Apple pay.
