There’s so much to see in Chesterfield Area that you’re really spoilt for choice. Here are just a few of the highlights.
The history and heritage of the region is written in the landscape all around you, from Linacre reservoirs to Chesterfield Canal, from Pleasley Pit Country Park to the black and white buildings of Chesterfield. Find out more on our history and heritage page.
History is alive in our stately homes. Chatsworth, the ‘Palace of the Peak’ that has been so much extended and altered that its Elizabethan roots are hidden from view. Renishaw Hall with its beautiful gardens. The height of Elizabethan fascination with symmetry and glass at Hardwick. Bolsover Castle, a castle in name only but in fact a mansion house once visited by King Charles I. Sutton Scarsdale Hall built to rival Chatsworth but now a dramatic hillside ruin.
There’s lots to do for families in Chesterfield Area, including Matlock Farm Park and the Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre. Barrow Hill Roundhouse Railway Centre and Chesterfield Museum offer hands on activities and events for children all year round. Find out more on our family friendly page.
Step out into our beautiful countryside with a walk round Linacre Reservoirs or alongside the Chesterfield Canal, or take part in the Chesterfield Area Walking Festival. Find out more on our walking page.
After a day out walking, why not enjoy a night out with a meal and a show at the Winding Wheel theatre? You can catch at play, a comedy night, West End musicals, concerts, dances, children’s shows and, of course, the Christmas pantomime. Check what shows are coming up on our theatres page.
The only question now is how many days do you need to stay to see it all?
